My Grey’s Anatomy Addiction
I have a hate-love relationship with Grey’s Anatomy. Well, maybe not so much a relationship since it’s not even mutual… Since I am already watching House MD and ER, I once swear that I am not going to watch any more medical dramas because watching so many medical shows makes me feel like I am a freak or that I have a thing with white coats which, by the way, is NOT true.

I blame Yvonne for introducing this addiction to me when I was staying at hers in Germany. What happened was, she suggested to watch something that is in English or with English subtitles so that I could understand and she pulled out her Grey’s Anatomy Season 1 DVD on the first evening that I arrived Germany after having no sleep the night before. We started watching one episode, two episodes, three episodes, four episodes and finally stopped at the 7th episode of the first season when it’s already two in the morning. And then finished the entire season in the next evening…
The twisted relationship between Meredith and Derek is just so addictive. I know this sounds pathetic because on some level, the formula of Grey’s Anatomy is not very different from that of Healing Hands which I absolutely despise. They both have messy romantic relationships amongst the doctors (and nurses) as their main spine of the storyboard and then have different patients and medical cases every episode to make it a medical drama. Maybe the proportion of romance and medicine of Grey’s Anatomy is not as terribly imbalance as that of Healing Hands, but I do feel that Grey’s Anatomy stresses a lot more on romance than ER and House.
Despite my grieve of Grey’s Anatomy being too romance-oriented, Simon pointed out that they have very good music. I fell in love with their original soundtrack of second season. Some of my most favourite tracks in this album include War on Sound by Moonbabies (It’s a band from Malmö!), Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, Grace by Kate Havnevik and How to Save a Life by The Fray. I am not so much a big fan of the first season album, but I think no one could make a pass on its theme music Cosy in the Rocket by PSAPP. There are actually many more songs that I like which were played in the show however are not included in their original soundtrack such as Move You by Anya Marina which is actually the top track of my playlist now… ;)
