100% Agree and I despise Starbucks. Crappy coffee, Trans-national Americanism, Capitalism, Monopoly, over-priced drinks, over-marketing, kills variety… The list goes on and on. I am so much better off in Jasper Coffee on Brunswick Street.

Third Time’s a Charm!

I created my first batch of failing cookies today! Well, they were not all that bad – at least the timing was gradually better for the second and third batches! And they actually all tasted fine, although you will smell burnt from the crust of the first batch (but they are extra crunchy)!

The recipe was adapted from Neiman Marcus Online. The only variations were… less sugar as usual and that I messed up with the 1/2 tablespoon measuring spoon while I was only suppose to add 1 teaspoon of baking powder. I managed to realise that right after I poured down that 1/2 tbsp of baking powder to the mount of flour, so I just scooped it right back. However the damage was already done as some of the baking powder has already sank into the flour so I could only estimate the right amount to add after then.

By the way, the recipe says you can add an extra few minutes if you want crunchier cookies – that’s completely misleading, the recipe is 20 minute TOPS – unless you want your cookies like my first batch!

So overall I was very thankful that these cookies didn’t come out as mini-cakes or completely burnt. They all have a crunchy crust and a chewy texture :) YUMO!

The Three-and-a-half-hour Tour of Melbourne

I finally got the chance to meet Choi while she’s over in Melbourne for Easter! It’s a shame that today was already her last day here and I only had three and a half hours to spend with her before she left for Canberra and Sydney. As she had only been to all the touristy places of Victoria i.e. Phillip Island and 12 Apostles, I therefore decided to take her to some of my most favourite places in Melbourne. For example, Getrude Street, Brunswick Street and Smith Street. (Strip shopping rocks!) Other than these three places, I also managed to cover the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum, Lygon Street, some of the CBD, and Melbourne University!

I had this burger for lunch on Easter Sunday, and I was already missing it last night i.e. barely 5 hours after I had had the burger! It was juicy, tasty, crispy. The paramount burger experience. Certainly another thing I am going to miss when I leave Melbourne.

By the way, I did not just go all the way to Brunswick Street for the burger, it was just a detour when I was on my way to Smith Street to do a site inspection for Planning Law’s assignment, so I was not kidding when I said “I am not Easter-breaking” on Facebook.

Anyway, I am off for another site visit for another project in Footscray today. Happy holidays I guess!

It is also that day that Bill Clinton announced GPS aaccess will be available for regular citizens; the day that Tony Blair became Prime Minister of UK; the day that the British ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 departed on her maiden voyage to new York City; the day that the world’s first ever jet airliner made its maiden voyage flying from London to Johannesburg; the day that Soviet Union captured Berlin; the day that Adolf Hitler banned trade unions.
