First Day @ Work
First days are always the same… so nothing really big to write about. But these pics are going to get you guys soooo jealous!
Yes, that’s the view from my office space! Though I spent 99% of my time outside this space…

I am sure you have googled your name at least ONCE.
Yesterday, I bumped into Chris’ post on Google Resume from last year. What Chris said is so true – you almost don’t need a resume nowadays – if you are internet-active, your future employer can just punch your name in Google and hit enter, then he/she will immediately know what kind of person you are, or whether you are lying on your resume. (That’s if your future employer is very internet-active too.)
I have just drafted up my new CV, and I have been contemplating whether I should put my blog address on to it, as it could show more of my personality. But after careful consideration and seeing that my job has almost nothing to do with my blog content, I decided not to. After all, I do not wish them discovering more flaws of me, or interpret what I said differently.
Anyway, here’s My Google Resume:
Disclaimer: I AM studying for tomorrow’s exam!
Anyway, I was going to do a write-up of Michelle Kwan. But I love her so much that I want the post to be perfect… so, may I present you the product of my exquisite procrastination:
Stolen from Tonya
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Chocolate. (Please tell me why I have never tried Egg Nog?)2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Hmmm… I thought he has little elves to work form him?3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
I guess it depends… if the background is really pale and dull, it’s better to have coloured lights – more festive-y anyway!4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No. Not *that* useful anyway! LOL5. When do you put your decorations up?
Whenever I feel up to it, but most probably won’t be any day two weeks before Christmas.6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Roast.7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
I am not the kind of memory person… please pardon my lack of sentiments.8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Please refer to answer for Q79. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Depends what you mean by “open” if you call sneaking a peek of what’s under the gift wrap, open. Then, yes.10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Lots of lights, ornaments, garland, and a star.11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love it! But it never snows here.12. Can you ice skate?
Hell ya! But never skate during Christmas period. I swear for once I have to go skate at Rockefeller during Christmas time.13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Again, not a memory person.14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
It’s where all the New Year Holidays and Christmas holidays clutter together – and Summer holiday!15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Not exactly holiday dessert… Tiramisu.16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Don’t have one.17. What tops your tree?
A star.18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?
I love giving, but anyone who says they don’t love receiving is a LIAR. :P (T, gonna keep this one!)19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Joy to the world20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
No special feeling towards it… won’t crave for it, won’t hate it.
The lyrics of this song isn’t particularly good (except the first few lines), but I like the melody a lot :) [How am I suppose to "post" the melody without violating copyright laws anyway?!
Anyway, I found that descriptive words are very appealing to me... probably because I am totally incompetent at writing descriptive stuff especially in Chinese. (I don't think I have ever written a descriptive essay in Chinese if I were given the choice.)
[Bold words are those I find particularly appealing - maybe because of the words itself, or just the melody I associated with it... LOL]
I finally finished recompiling all the lecture notes for those iLecture recordings are available on LMS! Hopefully it will be a while (at least until the exam…) before I will hear Kath’s voice again………………………. (Seriously, it was 11 hours of lecture in 2 days!!! Someone even asked me what “music” I was listening as I have turned on the ‘Currently listening’ Status on iChat.)
Now off to the readings!!!
Sel-indulge a bit before I plunge into the black hole of re-compiling all the lecture notes for Shaping…
Speaking of salutatory lesson for back-up? I have had tons of those – never learn a lesson.
Now, serve yourself some good food, I wish you can smell & taste the pictures!
I have lost literally ALL my Shaping Metropolis lecture notes.
The file just gone for NO APPARENT REASON… without leaving any trace.
I will remember to back up next time, but PLEASE tell me how to get my lecture notes back…
NB I think this is by far my most negative post ever.
Can’t believe Star Ferry Pier is actually going to be demolished.
Been reading SEE’s project page and found an article:
Several questions:
How does the whatever authority in HK decide what is a heritage? Shouldn’t heritage be something that has a significant heritage, architectural or cultural value, and not simply based on its age? If that is how the heritage authority values a building, shouldn’t the Queen’s and Star Ferry Pier be qualified as heritage? They have always been the place where the past HK Governors landed and left Hong Kong; and the mechanical clock has a high architectural value.
Another (highway) [what's the deal with p2]? Does Hong Kong need that many (highways)? With the eastern and western corridors, I thought the habour of Hong Kong Island has already been taken over by highways COMPLETELY. Also, being highly influenced by my transport lecturer, I just couldn’t help but think that highway is nothing but assisting the growth of automobility. With the heightening discussion of sustainability, does Hong Kong really want to build more highways?
Moreover, since when mobility worth more than cultural heritage?! There is always a way to get around it and still enhance the automobility, the chance is just that the alternatives may cost more. But you can always earn more money, heritage, however is irreplaceable. (Planning actions are irreversible. -Hopkins [All the planning exams have clearly taken over my brain :P])
Lastly, don’t you think that it’s such a joke that we are replacing a people’s place for cars, while rest of the world is desperate to do the opposite? I understand that we may have different problems, still, if we keep demolishing every single non-revenue-generating building for roads, HK will soon be seeking help from New Urbanist – Oh, hang on, we can’t – This is going to use heaps of money and we don’t have enough land, we are screwed anyway!
In addition, here’s a video that I think everyone from HK should watch:

I just feel bad for the old guy, he’s so enthusiastic about every part of the clock tower. This is like his home, this is where he have worked probably for several decades. I can’t help but think that how his soul maybe gone with the demolition of the clock tower.
Alas. Capitalism, you evil son of the bitch, I hate you.
Another (maybe) relevant planning term: gentrification.

Please tell me I am just dreaming, because I just canNOT accept that PDM exam was actually over, and it was the shittiest exam EVER in my life.
The short questions was the most shitty part – why on earth would you think that you will be expect to know every single clause/section of Act by their NUMBER?! I know how to answer the question, I just don’t want to spend 5 minutes flipping the stupid P&E Act and that 2-inch-thick Yarra PS to find the number of the relevant scheme!!! Who cares about the fucking numbers?!?!?
Gonna work HARD for shaping, it’s my only chance left in this semester to actually ace something.
This semester is totally fucked up.
But what can I do? If my exchange application don’t get through this time, I will just apply again next semester…
